Leading Construction Arabtec announces CEO

The board of the leading construction company in the GCC, has announced their CEO as Hamish Tyrwhitt, appointed with effect from November 28th 2016.

The chairman of Arabtec, H.E Mohammed Al Rumaithi said about the appointment that Hamish’s career has been distinguished in the construction industry. He has the necessary experience for Arabtec and because of this, the company’s financial & strategic positioning will achieve its full growth & potential. He is confident about his leadership which will help Arabtec to move forward to a successful & a sustainable future.

The appointed CEO said that Arabtec is a strong business with a track record of achievements stretching back from over last 40 years and also that he is looking forward to take the company further in capitalizing several opportunities available to its group.

Before becoming the CEO, he worked at Leighton Holdings ltd. for 27 years which is one of the world’s leading construction contractors, internationally and one of Australia’s biggest listing companies.

He held different positions in Australia & Asia before appointed as Leighton’s CEO between the years 2011 to 2014. He became CEO of Asia Resources Minerals, in March 2015, which is an Indonesian coal mining company listed in London, before being appointed as CEO of Depa Group in April 2016.

He will retain his already existing responsibilities as CEO of Depa Group along with those of Arabtec’s.

Mohamed Al Rumaithi added saying that he would like to thank Saeed Al Mehairbi who has been acting CEO and has guided Arabtec successfully through the tough atmosphere that has affected the construction industry. Saeed will serve as a Director of the Board of Arabtec as he was doing before.

Composed of 9 principle subsidiary companies, Arabtec is the leading construction company in the Middle East.

As earlier reported, the Group is executing a series of restructuring & cost reduction initiatives. Arabtec generated Dh 6 billion of revenue in the first 9 months of the year 2016 which is an increase of 17% over the same period last year.

The company has also showed the increase of Dh 2 billion revenue in the third quarter the current year which is a 25% rise when compared to the same period last year. Arabtec’s backlogs of current & future projects are worth Dh 20 billion.
